1) The Committee plans to increase its membership/participation. The Committee would like to gain the participation of several key agencies, including the VA, FAA, and TSA, as well as other agencies. If you want to get involved, please contact us!
2) The Committee plans to sponsor joint career fairs with the UW and City Career fair again in FY 07. It will promote federal participation in these events, as well as distribute information to HR points of contact about other career fair opportunities in the area.
3) The Committee plans to continue implementation of the HR database/website. It is in the process of refining the database and developing the website interfaces with the support of IT professionals from several agencies. A particular emphasis is being placed on producing a user-friendly product through the use of agency HR professionals and technical advisors available through the committee. There will be two web sites; one will be accessible by the general public and will contain general information on the agencies in the SFEB, and the other will be password secured for HR users and will contain more specific information for each agency. Once prototypes of the web sites are available, we will work with our HR points of contact to test the usability. The Committee will launch the web sites during FY 07.
4) The Committee plans to invite HR professionals and local college/university career centers to participate in a panel/round table discussion to discuss hiring needs/initiatives, federal career opportunities, college graduate skills/interests/trends, how the federal government can be a competitive employer. This would be a networking and information sharing event sponsored by the SFEB; participants would be HR professionals and managers from Federal agencies, as well as career advisors/placement specialists from local colleges and universities.
5) Keep the Recruitment Committee website up-to-date.
2006 Accomplishments
• The Committee sponsored two career fairs during FY 2006. The first was the UW Minority Career Fair in January. 27 Federal agencies participated in this event, and it was regarded as a successful venture; we hope to continue our relationship with the UW Career Center. The second was the Annual Diversity Employment Career Fair put on by City Career Fair. We successfully negotiated a reduced fee (from $3500 down to $400) for federal agencies, and in return solicited our SFEB community for participants. We arranged a “Federal Pavilion” for the event, and encouraged participation in the diversity roundtable/networking session prior to the career fair. 21 Federal agencies participated in the event (although 3 agencies did not register through the SFEB and paid full price). The SFEB sponsored a booth at the event and invited 2 OPM representatives to work with us promoting the federal government as an employer of choice, and distributing helpful information on applying for federal positions. The SFEB was recognized by City Career Fair with a “Diversity Spirit Achievement Award” to recognize our active support of diversity in the community and the workplace. Feedback from agency participants was also overwhelmingly positive. Had the Committee not been able to negotiate a reduced participation fee, it is likely that only 3-5 agencies would have had the means to participate in this event. In addition to these two major career fairs, the Committee also distributed information on other career fairs via the SFEB Executives. View our photos:
• The Committee has enjoyed a year of steady participation from our members. We have a dedicated group of professionals, and as a result we all learned from each other about initiatives affecting the federal community such as Hire a Hero, the Federal Career Intern Program, OPM regulations, and A-76 studies, just to name a few.
• The Committee continued to work on our key project of creating an SFEB HR website for the general public and HR users. Although we did not launch the sites as we originally planned, we made great progress due to the hard work of our committed volunteers!
