Settlement Rate 89% Savings to the Federal Government $6,212,859.84 Budget Revenue $34,677.50 Expenses $27,205.43 Balance $ 7,472.07 Special Projects Coaching for FAA and Bellevue Mediation Program We provided coaching sessions for the Bellevue Mediation Program, as well as several days of coaching for the FAA Mediation Program throughout the year. Conflict Resolution Day The SFEB ADR Consortium partnered with ten ADR organizations from around Puget Sound to sponsor Conflict Resolution Day activities at City Hall and Seattle University. Dealing with Performance and Conduct Issues Tom Melancon trained Managers and Supervisors attending this SFEB sponsored event on the Alternative Dispute Resolution section on July 22nd and September 24th, 2009. Inter-generational Conflict Tom Melancon, SFEB ADR Program Coordinator, attended a one day workshop at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Institute in August entitled The Generational Mix in the Workplace. The workshop focused on differences in work, communication and conflict styles among members of the Baby Boomer, Generation X and Millennial generations. Ken Cloke Training We were very fortunate to be able to sponsor scholarships for SFEB ADR Consortium mediators to be trained by world renowned conflict resolver, Ken Cloke. This training was co-sponsored by the Seattle FEB, WMA, Snohomish county DRC and Antioch University. The workshop was titled Resolving Workplace Conflicts and Designing Preventative Systems. We examined the neuropsychology of conflict, language and perceptual distortions in conflict, conflict dynamics, dangers in mediation and dangerous questions. The afternoon was devoted to mediation techniques that can assist in resolving organizational conflicts. King County Interlocal Conflict Resolution Group and City of Seattle ADR Program The SFEB ADR Program Manager was invited to participate in planning meetings with the ILCRG's mediation program and the coordinators of the Seattle ADR Program. Topics to be discussed include confidentiality issues, intake procedures, follow-up practices, mediator training and sharing resources between the three consortiums. Racism in Mediation The City of Seattle ADR program has invited SFEB facilitators to attend a three-day advanced workplace facilitation training on Facilitating Groups Experiencing Racial Conflict. The goal of the training is to develop participants practical skills and expertise in facilitating racial conflict issues in public sector work groups. The City has agreed to sponsor 5 SFEB facilitators free of charge for this training. SFEB ADR Consortium Annual Training Conference This year, the SFEB ADR Annual Training Conference was on Hostage Negotiation and Mediation. Dr. James P. McGee, former hostage negotiator for the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation offered a compelling description of the hostage negotiation process along with tools learned from this field that an aid and assist mediators in their work. Seattle University The SFEB ADR Consortium provides a quarterly presentation at a Negotiations class at Seattle Universitys MPA program. Three SFEB mediators present each quarter. Shots Fired Tom Melancon and three SFEB ADR mediators attended the seminar entitled Shots Fired: Surviving an Active Shooter in the Workplace. Tom and the mediators discussed implications of the training to the SFEB ADR Program and how lessons learned could be applied to current procedures. UW Law School We were invited by the UW Law School to coach 3L's in the mediation process. UW/WSBA NW ADR Conference Committee We continue our participation on the NW ADR Conference Committee, made up of members from the WA State Bar Association, UW, King County ADR and Washington Mediation Association.
